Somatic Coaching

1:1 Sessions to move towards your longings

Partner in a journey toward your transformation

What is coaching?

Coaching is a collaborative partnership, where the client is supported to move towards their goals, vision and purpose. In coaching, both the coach and client bring expertise. The client brings expertise on experience & context, while the coach brings expertise on process.

What is somatics?

Somatics is the intentional practice of bringing awareness to our embodied experience, for healing, learning & transformation.
Somatics is a Western field, that emerged in-part as a response to the mind/body split that lies beneath the West’s own oppressive ideals & systems. Though much of the wider field lacks this political analysis, somatics can play a key role in our collective re-embodiment to reckon with & heal from centuries of collective harm, empire & domination.
It is essential to recognise that in many indigenous & diasporic cultures, embodiment is intimately tied to spirituality, worship, music, dance & relationship to land. As a practitioner, I reject the colonial notion that somatics is somehow exceptional, original or advanced. Rather, I hold it as a bridge – one which many of us can step onto from different directions, in order to reach more life-affirming futures.

‘Soma’ (ancient Greek):

Most accurately translated as “the living being in its wholeness”.

Politicised somatics:

Politicised somatics maintains that our embodiment is shaped not only by individual & family experiences, but also social, cultural, political & ancestral ones.
Somatics has recently surged in popularity, entering wellness capitalism as the next trendy buzzword, while it’s real value is diluted. Despite this, it is a powerful tool for change. Like all tools, they can be used either for individual gain or collective power. Politicised somatics converged to harness the power of embodiment for justice & liberation.
Somatics has a complex lineage, shaped by cultural appropriation, white supremacy, imperialism, colonialism & extraction. I hold this complexity alongside a commitment to undoing systems of harm, uplifting those at sharp end of injustice through the work, and practicing for the sake of collective repair.

What is somatic coaching?

My coaching is grounded in the work developed by generative somatics & the Strozzi Institute.
Somatic coaching supports the inherent wisdom of your body to take consistent action toward your longings.
It also involves transforming the ways you’ve been conditioned to be, act & relate that no longer serve you. All of our somas have adapted to take care of safety, belonging & dignity, as a result of our lives and our social & political context. I work in a compassionate & non-judgemental way, supporting you to increase your access to agency, to align your actions with what you care about.
Sessions draw on a powerful range of embodied practices, involving awareness, breath, movement, speech & touch. Consent & choice is built into everything I do, and I’ll work with you to build the trust you need to take safe-enough risks.
I hold that trauma is both personal & collective, though ultimately most trauma is produced by systems of oppression. As such, I work with sensitivity & care at this edge, while remaining in my scope of practice as a coach. Healing may happen as part of the coaching process, and I do not ask you to leave your wounded parts at the door, though what I offer is not a substitute for trauma healing work (e.g. psychotherapy).

How can somatic coaching support you?

  • Find purpose & clarity in times of overwhelm, polycrisis, late-stage capitalism, state violence, genocide & climate collapse.
  • Discover & transform how you’ve been impacted by power-over social conditions.
  • Deepen your capacity to feel desire, aliveness, joy, pleasure, rage & grief.
  • Develop more agency & purposefulness in how you show up for who & what you care about.
  • Widen your capacity for resilience and access to safety, belonging & dignity.
